Overview
We know that things could be better for those living with lung conditions. Lots of new technology is being developed to try to improve things – for example new tests, wearables, artificial intelligence (AI), and smartphone apps.
The HERON project aims to look at what people with lung conditions need to be improved (called ‘unmet needs’) and where new technology could help. This is for us to make sure that new technology actually makes a difference.
Our team has developed a survey to find out more about lung health needs, as well as any views or ideas related to technology for chronic lung conditions. We want to hear from a wide range of people, including those who don’t think they are good with phones / computers.
The survey will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete, depending on how much detail you want to give. You do not have to answer every question. We will only collect your name and email address if you choose to be contacted to contribute to other parts of this research or would like a copy of your responses.
If you need the survey to be in a different format (e.g. printed, or in another language) or would like to complete it with one of our team members over the telephone, please contact us by e-mail at heron@phc.ox.ac.uk
For this survey, we are interested in hearing from people who:
- Are living with a chronic lung condition (see below)
- Believe they might be living with a chronic lung condition based on symptoms or tests
- Think they may be at high risk for developing a chronic lung condition (for example, due to smoking, family history, exposure at work or poor housing)
- Are caring for someone who is living with a chronic lung condition
What do we mean by 'chronic lung condition'?
This includes long-term conditions which affect breathing or cause a cough or wheeze. Symptoms of these conditions may vary over time, have flare-ups, or need regular treatment with inhalers or antibiotics.
This includes:
- asthma
- COPD
- pulmonary fibrosis / interstitial lung disease
- breathing pattern disorder
- bronchiectasis and others
Lung cancer, tuberculosis, and sleep apnoea, although important, are not within scope of this survey.
Please contact us on heron@phc.ox.ac.uk if you are unsure whether you should complete the survey.
